How to unsubscribe from various types of emails
Do you want to receive fewer emails from Freecycle? Here's a guide to the types of emails we send and how to manage them.
Please note that Unsubscribing will stop certain types of emails from being sent, but DOES NOT DELETE your Freecycle account or your data from our system. See the link at the bottom of the page for more information.
Post emails
There are a few ways to manage the emails you receive about new posts made on your Town page(s).
- Click the Unsubscribe link on a post email: Click the Unsubscribe link at the bottom of any single post or digest email. This will set your email preference for that Town to "Never receive emails" and you will no longer receive emails about new posts or Town notices. If you're a member of multiple Towns, you will need to do this from an email for each Town.
Please note that we are experiencing issues with the Unsubscribe links on our emails. If you don't receive confirmation that you've been unsubscribed from emails, see instructions below to ask your Town moderators to set your email preferences for you.
- Change your preferences for each Town yourself on your Settings page: Set or change email preferences. You need to be logged in to do this.
- Ask your Town moderator to change your email setting for you. Here's how to contact them: Contact Town Moderators. You need to be logged in to do this.
Replies to posts
It is not currently possible to unsubscribe to post reply emails notifications.
However, if you are receiving inappropriate messages from another member, please contact your Town moderator to report the issue, including the username and/or email address of the other member and a description of the issue.
Messages from moderators
There are three types of email messages your Town moderators may send you:
- Emails with information about your post, including letting you know why your post wasn't approved. It is not possible to unsubscribe from these.
- Replies to messages you send the moderators. It is not possible to unsubscribe from these.
- Town Notices, which are sent to all members of the Town. You can unsubscribe from these by changing your email preference for that town to "Never receive emails." This setting will stop all post emails and Town notice emails, but you will still receive post reply emails. Please note that at this time, your Town moderators cannot enable this setting for you. You will need to do it yourself on your Settings page.
Messages from Freecycle friends
You can change your Friends email preferences on your Settings page. Uncheck the Messages box under Global Email Settings to stop receiving an email each time a friend sends you a message on our onsite messaging system.
