Email preference settings

Most messages between you and other members, and you and your Town moderators are now available online at any time in My Messages.

Here's how to customize your email settings

Go to  https://freecycle.org and log in, if necessary. 

Click on the My Menu icon and select Settings  

Global Email Settings

The default setting is unchecked checked/off. Click the box next to each selection to turn it on or off and then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click Save Changes. You will be always able to see these messages online in My Messages, whether or not you you choose to receive emails.

  • Messages: Put a checkmark in this box to receive an email each time a Freecycle Friend sends you a message. 
  • System Notifications: Put a checkmark in this box to receive emails for Notifications that require an action on your part, like when another member sends a Friend request. 

Town Email Preferences

When you first join a Town group, you will be set up for the default email setting of Digest. You can change the setting for each Town in this section. Make your selection and then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the green Save Changes button.

  • Receive an email for every new post - You will receive an email for each post when it is created on the website. This is the fastest way to be notified by email about new posts.
  • Receive a digest of all new posts - You will receive one email containing up to 25 posts, at least once a day. This means the posts in the list can be up to 24 hours old and may include items marked as taken if they have been given away during this period.
  • Only receive emails for Town notices- You will only receive occasional messages from your moderator team.
  • Never receive emails - you will receive no Post or Town Notice emails but you will be able to view all posts, messages and Town notices online at any time in My Messages.

Friends Circle Email Preferences

The default setting for Friends Circle is an email for every new post. You can change that setting here. Make your selection and then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click  Save Changes.

  • Receive an email for every new post - You will receive an email for each post when it is created on the website. This is the fastest way to be notified by email about new posts.
  • Receive a digest of all new posts - You will receive one email containing up to 25 posts, at least once a day. This means the posts in the list can be up to 24 hours old and may include items marked as taken if they have been given away during this period
  • Never receive emails - you will receive no emails but you will be able to view all posts, messages and Town notices online at any time

To help prevent Freecycle emails from being marked as Spam by your email provider, please add: no_reply@freecycle.org to your contact list/address book
